I have read Mitch Albom’s Five People You Meet in Heaven and I found it interesting, and that’s what made me go for his another book called, Tuesdays with Morrie. I must say that this one is even better than the former because this book deals with a lot of emotions including a mixture of feelings.
It gives smile on one hand and will bring tears to your eyes on the other. This book is about a meeting between a student and his teacher that took place on 14 Tuesdays, and this meeting was supposed to be their last one as the teacher was on his verge of the death bed.
They talked about all the things in life that we have forgotten while being so much engrossed so much in our daily routine. This book will open your eyes to some of the things that you might have thought of but never ever imagined throughout your life.
Let us take an account of some of the Tuesdays that happened in this book.
On the 1st Tuesday, they discussed the “whole World”, that the world is full of miseries, and that, it is all about giving love to each other. I like when the author quotes, “The most important thing in life is to learn how to give out love, and to let it come in.” So, it means that when you give out something, then only, you can expect something in return.
On the 2nd Tuesday, they discussed feeling sorry for yourself. There were lots of people in this world who felt sorry for themselves and spent most of their time, just having pity in them. Why do people have to pity themselves? Why can’t they just move on with life?
On the 3rd Tuesday, they discussed the regrets in life. It happens many times that we tend to regret so many things in life such as regret to not having enough money to buy a car, not having our dream house, or not owning the world’s best farmhouse. But, is this all that we want from life? I am not saying it is not good to desire something, and be materialistic but “Life is beyond all these things.” There is still something missing in life other than all these things, and we realize it once we are on our death bed, and then we tend to regret it. But, we can find something missing even when we are alive. We just need someone who can give us a direction; “a teacher” like Mitch Albom got it in Professor in the book.
On the 4th Tuesday, they discussed “Death”. Morrie, the professor, told Mitch why do people get afraid of death when they all know that death will come one day or the other but no one tends to believe it. All of us tend to believe that we have come as immortal. It is a sublime fact that everyone on this earth should live as if it is their last day. Always ask yourselves, “Have I been able to do what I always wanted to? Or Is today my last day on earth.”
All this and much more only on Tuesdays with Morrie. It’s a must-read for all of us to understand what we want from life.
