About the Author

Khaled Hosseiniis an Afghan-American novelist who was born on March 4, 1965. He is also a UNHCR goodwill ambassador, and was a former physician. The Novel ‘The Kite Runner’ (2003) is his debut work, which was both a critical and commercial success. All of his later works have been at least partially set against an Afghan background and have featured an Afghan as the protagonist. Hosseini’s unique stories enlightened the global audience about Afghanistan’s people and culture.

Book Summary

The Kite Runner, written by Khaled Hosseini, tells the extraordinary story of friendship between a wealthy Afghan boy named Amir and Hassan who is the son of his father’s servant. The Kite Runner chronicles the journey of Amir from the 1970s. Amir’s father, whom he called Baba, is a wealthy and highly respected Afghan businessman. They lived a lavish life by residing in a large house and followed a very wealthy lifestyle. Amir and his father had two servants, Ali and his son, Hassan, who lived in a small cabin within their property’s compound. The story mainly portrays the growing relation between these two boys. In the climax, the author gives us an astonishing emotional twist where Amir realizes that Hassan is his half-brother. A moment of silence.

My thoughts

I came across this book while I was in my third year of college. It took me around two weeks to finish. The story kept me so engaged that I read it with a lot of enthusiasm. The story will make readers feel more connected to human emotions, which are often less acknowledged nowadays. They can probably relate it to some part of their life. A strong emotion of love binds each chapter of the story. For some reader’s the book might be a life changer. The bond between the two boys, without any rigid barriers, propels the story to its end.

Conclusion

This book is a must-read for all the literature enthusiasts out there. The readers are not bound to get disappointed as the author mainly uses simple language for the story. The book strikes an equal balance of feelings and rationality, appealing to all age groups. The author did complete justice with their work, surely encouraging one to read further. This is a book that one can keep for a lifetime.
